New Zealand has the second highest casualty rate of Asthma and Respiratory Diseases per capita in the world. There are over 1,000 premature deaths per year, 700,000 casualties with associated costs in excess of $6billion and mouldy homes and workplaces are largely responsible.
Stachybotrys (Black Mould) is very common in NZ and can cause incurable respiratory diseases. Many tradesmen and occupants still turn a blind eye and continue handling mould infested materials without any knowledge of the species or how they should be protecting themselves. This is an area much overlooked and in need of awareness, education and guidance.
